The sub-compact SUV debuts several new comfort features in the Indian market, while paramount importance has been given to the safety of the occupants as well. For the time being, it is offered with a manual transmission only, while the AMT gearbox is scheduled for a later stage.
Tata Nexon Exteriors
To begin with let us first inform you that the Nexon is based on the XO platform which is the same platform that also underpins almost all of their new generation compact cars including the Bolt, Zest and even the Tiago and Tigor.
Take a look at the production variant of the Nexon, and you will instantly mistake it with the concept car which was showcased almost three years back at the 2014 Auto Expo with some practical additions. This compact SUV stands apart from the crowd because of certain factors which include its modern looking face, a sloping roofline like silhouette, big extended X like design towards the rear which has been finished in Ivory white ceramic type element that we can also find towards the side profile and also under the front fog lamps. The big 16-inch chunky alloy wheels, high ground clearance of 200 mm, projector headlamps and LED taillamps are some other highlights which make the SUV looks quite modern and well equipped and practical at the same time.
The premium looking front grille has been finished in Piano black and has the Tata logo at the centre while a chrome slat sits on the base of the grille and extends all the way towards the side headlamps edges (Tata Motors calls it a humanity line). The Nexon also gets LED DRL’s positioned below the projector headlamps units. Towards the lower front face, the round fog lamps placed slightly higher to perhaps highlighting the high ground clearance.
Towards the side profile is where you will witness all the crease lines and bulges. The muscular wheel arches and the big 16 inch wheels along with black plastic claddings further add to its muscular stance. Just below the window line is where you will also find the Ivory white strip which you will also notice towards the front and rear profile of the SUV. One of the other highlights of the side profile of the SUV is its coupe like sloping roofline which is further accentuated by the Contrasting roof colour.
Towards the rear profile the Nexon gets an X shaped element which is positioned just below the rear windscreen. The floating roof spoiler towards the rear also features a LED stop lamps.

Tata Motor’s new Nexon has an inviting inner cabin that feels and looks modern with dark grey plastic and beige theme. Various other elements such as plush upholstery as well as knitted roofline make appearance premium. Tata Nexon borrows the same simple dials from Tigor but one thing that stands out and catches the attention is the floating 6.5-inch touchscreen unit placed atop the dashboard that is crisp and easily readable. The infotainment is paired to 8-speaker Harman surround sound system while there is support for Android Auto and Bluetooth as well.
Smart dash is not drastic in terms of design, it is built with high-grade plastic of various textures providing it a great effect. The center console also houses AC vents and automatic climate control knobs besides giving room for USB and Aux-In. Another talking point of the car is the state-of-the-art twin-pod instrument cluster with an LCD screen at the center. The car also comes with another standout feature in the form of three driving modes; Eco, City, and Sport meant to offer better drivability on and off-road. For more info on Tata Nexon check Cssn

Tata Nexon Transmission
Coming to the drivetrains, the Nexon will be available with both diesel and petrol engines dismissing the rumour of offering only a diesel variant during the time of its launch.
The petrol variant gets the 1.2 Litre, three cylinder engine which is the same unit which also powers the Tiago and Tigor. But, the engine has been worked upon to make it more responsive and also to churn out slightly more power. The turbocharged unit is capable of churning out a healthy power and torque figures of 110hp and 170Nm respectively. The diesel variant, on the other hand, gets the new 1.5-litre four cylinder direct injection turbo unit which is capable of producing about 110 Ps of peak power and 260 Nm of torque. Both the engines paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox which is also new for this segment. However, there are rumours that Tata Motors might also introduce an AMT transmission as well soon.
For the first time, Tata Motors is also offering three different drive modes as well for both petrol and diesel variants. The three different drive modes on offer are Eco, City and Sport. While the City moe allows the owner to zip through City traffic, the Eco mode calms things down and focuses on returning impressive overall fuel efficiency. For those who want a spirited driving experience can always opt for the Sport mode.
